About Bridge Austin

Bridge Austin was founded on the idea of building bridges. We like to listen to businesses to determine where their troubles lie. We then tap into our resources to help to offer a solution. If a company needs to hire a candidate to fill a role, Bridge Austin can help. If a company needs to know who to go to for a service (fiances, legal, office moves, etc), Bridge Austin can help. If a company doesn't even know what they need they just know that they have a problem, Bridge Austin can help.

Bridge Austin was founded by Kim Brushaber. She has a natural understanding of who you need to talk to in order to get an issue resolved.

Kim Brushaber came to Austin from Dallas to get a BBA degree in MIS from the University of Texas. She fell in love with Austin instantly. She loved all of the different types of social activities that are available to Austinites - whether it be a day walking around Town Lake or an evening spent listening to amazing live music.

While at UT, Kim realized that she could get a degree in something that was a perfect blend of her interests - MIS, computers in the business world. Websites starting becoming available for the first time in 1994 and it was an exciting time for mainstream people to become interested in computers for the first time.

Kim joined an organization for MIS majors called MISA in 1996. At that time the MIS major started to see a large amount of growth in enrollment. Kim took on the role as the Membership Officer for this organization. During that time membership grew from 100 people with 30 active members to 500 people with 150 active members.

Kim started her career as a consultant with Ernst and Young. While she was there she learned how to work with an Iterative Life Cycle for a very large scale project (over 150 Java Developers). Kim learned the art of analysis, design, development and testing during her time there.

After working in consulting for 2 1/2 years, Kim wanted to return to Austin full time. She took a job as a Java Developer for a startup called Hire.com in 2000. A few months after her arrival the .com burst hit Austin. Hire.com did have a few layoffs, but it was one of the few initial .coms that was able to prosper during those times. Hire.com had a great team and inspirational leadership. The Hire.com solution was a recruiting solution that allowed companies to post job information for their own individual website.

After a few years, Hire.com was sold to Authoria. Kim worked at Hire.com/Authoria for 7 1/2 years. As soon as she'd been in a role for a year she'd start to look for some new way to add to the organization. Her career path transitioned from Java Developer to Release Manager to Product Manager to Quality Engineer to Implementation Engineer to High Level Tech Support to Database Engineer to Systems Deployment. It's fair to say that Kim worked the full "tech" side of a software company with the exception of some of the hardware roles.

In 2008, Kim wanted to take on a role where she could be back in front of people more often. She went back into consulting at BSG Alliance (which became nGenera). Although it was nice for her to be able to go back to her career roots in consulting, something was missing. Kim read the book "Eat, Pray, Love" - a true story about a writer who recreates her life. At that point Kim realized that she wanted to work somewhere that she could use her skills in technology as well as allowing her to be hyper social and to help people.

This was the point where Kim decided to go to work for Modis. Modis allowed Kim to get back into the networking/social scene that she so dearly loved. She was able to build a lot of strong contacts within the business world in Austin. She was able to use her experience of being a Hiring Manager to help other Hiring Managers determine what kinds of candidates and skills they needed to fill a role.

This all leads us to Bridge Austin. The corporate world really wasn't right for Kim - she had discovered this before at Ernst and Young. She wanted to take from all of her strengths and build a strong organization who's main goal is to help people become connected together. From this idea, Bridge Austin was born.

Kim actively participates in several networking groups around Austin - door64, Austin Tech Happy Hour, inAustin, Network in Austin, Young Women's Alliance, Austin Technology Council, Association for Women in Technology in Austin, Texas Exes Professionals Network, Texas Exes Young Alumni, Texas Recruiters Association, Young Execs - among many others.
